Association Management

Words. Events. Communication. Action

The Crime Writers’ Association is the UK’s largest membership organisation for published crime writers. Since 2016, Competitive Edge MD Dea Parkin has undertaken the paid-for role of Secretary, the lead management post.  It encompasses:

  • communication with members; authors, reviewers, literary agents and publishers;
  • communication with external bodies such as the Society of Authors, the media and sponsors;
  • co-ordinating the CWA’s many activities and the famous Dagger awards;
  • co-ordinating writing competitions such as the renowned Debut Dagger;
  • writing, editing and proofing its various communications, from monthly magazines to press releases to websites, including those of its sister Crime Readers’ Association.

Dea also develops Association strategy, advising and liaising with Board members; implementing policies; and originating ideas on an almost daily basis.

Organisational skills, love of the publishing world, rapport with authors and industry personalities and the ability to reflect the professionalism of its writer membership in all its communications are integral to Dea’s work.
