Is creative writing different from copywriting? You bet it is. Skills might transfer from one to the other, but they are poles apart.

Copywriting is about using words to grab attention and persuade people that they might want to buy something, or deal with a particular company.

Creative writing, for novelists, is about telling stories. The real world and real people will be inspiration, but imagination is at their heart.

Dea has loved to write for as long as she can remember.

She has had two one-act plays performed at amateur level and has written several more.
One of her short stories was short-listed in a national competition. She’s also had poetry and stories published in the small press.

But it is novel-writing that takes up most of Dea’s free time. After finishing her first novel aged 14, it’s taken some 30 years to reach the final chapters of her second, Rich Dreaming. It’s a contemporary story with a healthy dose of magic realism and a media background. A bit Joanne Harris, with a nod to James Robertson. If you’d like to know more, read the blurb here.

For the corporate client, Dea’s passion for creative writing is good news. Dea can create something unusual to accompany a marketing promotion; for instance, a story to complement product characters. Perhaps you’re looking for a compilation of amusing anecdotes relevant to your industry. Or how about a commemorative poem about an organisation or a specific person and their endeavours?

For the literary agent or publisher, Dea’s skills could be good news too. These days a professional approach and marketing savvy is almost as important as writing talent. So if the legend of the proactive publisher is real and you’re it, a synopsis and first chapters of Rich Dreaming await. Please, get in touch!
